March marks the third installment of POCG's Mug of the Month program, and this month’s piece is a true celebration of both nature and craftsmanship. Peters Pottery has curated a beautiful design inspired by the Black Capped Chickadee, a bird beloved by Kathleen and bird watchers alike. With a thoughtful and intricate design, each mug captures the grace and beauty of this tiny, resilient bird in a way that will make each sip of your morning coffee feel like an encounter with nature itself.

When asked to participate in MOTM, they thought;

“15-20 mugs-piece of cake; sign us up! We’ll try some new techniques to challenge ourselves a little. This will be fun!”. 

"Haha. Incorrect! 

There were times during this process that I was genuinely questioning if we were even worthy enough of the title ‘artists’. While we didn’t run into too many physical ‘roadblocks’, the mental ones sure made up for it. 

Why aren’t these colors working together like I want them to?  

Are people even going to like these? I said I wanted to stray away from realism-why can’t I do this!? 

Is this good enough to represent the Guild? 

Just a few of many lessons learned- slow down, don’t overthink everything, let the art just happen & trust the process. 

We truly hope you’ve enjoyed reading and seeing the journey through to our very first cohesive collection of pottery. It was a whirlwind, but we’re so proud of the work we were able to accomplish and very grateful to have been given this fantastic opportunity."

Secret Motifs in Some of the Pieces:

1. Three leaves carved in the bottom of the mug/three leaves in the framed art/handle split into 3 at the bottom- represents our three children and the reason why we are doing what we’re doing. 

2. Handle split into 3 at the bottom to represent the chickadee’s feet.
